Amazing Bird Houses From Luke Bartels + Jeff Canham

    Lead

Artists Jeff Canham and Luke Bartels have been working on a group of bird houses for their upcoming show 'For the Birds' at The Curiosity Shoppe which opens on Friday April 9th. Jeff and Luke share with us step by step the process of building the birdhouses.

An establishing shot of my studio where the birdhousing is going down.

    FTB1

A corner of Luke Bartels' woodshop where the two of us do most of the building and assembling. Rather that's where Luke does most of the building and assembling and I make witty comments while he's working.

    FTB2

Some of the elements (rooftops, vents, etc.) that will go on the finished birdhouses. You can see a couple of the blank boxes at the end of the shelf.

    FTB3

    Blanks.

    FTB4

Bad cell phone photo of the painted blanks.
    FTB5

    Bail Bonds work in progress.

    FTB6

Security cameras. Luke's a genius. Not only did he whip out all these great little cameras, he also built this stand so they could dry after they're painted. You are being watched!
    FTB7

More work in progress. It's kind of exciting seeing them lined up like this and looking like a neighborhood.

    FTB8

Madame Cuckoo, Psychic. Painting these tiny letters is kind of a pain in the ass, but it's all worth it when you see the smiles on the bird's faces.
    FTB9

Luke and I are both especially proud of the empty beer bottle on top of the recycling bin (lower right).
    FTB10

Billboard."Sale!" was added and then it was installed on the side of the Bail Bonds place.

    FTB11

Luke during a birdhouse photo shoot. He kept saying "More emotion!"

    FTB12

    Seedy's Liquors.

    FTB13

Detail with one-legged bird. Sounds like a Tom Robbins novel.

    FTB14 Hawk's Pawn Shop. Cheep!

Tim Doyle 'The Coming Storms' Print Available

    Because YOU demanded it...

Artist Tim Doyle recently opened up his personal Vaults and sold out of his pre-Nakatomi prints, and ONE IN PARTICULAR evaporated instantly, and we got quite a few emails asking for a re-print.  WELL- that’s the point of a gigposter, you can’t reprint it…it’s for THAT gig.  But, since the art stands just fine on it’s own…no reason not to make some happy peoples out there. At half the size of the original, this print is surprisingly twice as nice!  The detail tightens up quite nicely- and Doyle even got to do a little bit of clean-up on the art

'The Coming Storms' is a 2 colour 18 × 24 inch screenprint with an edition size of 150, comes signed and numbered by the artist for $25 each.

    Check it out HERE

(Don’t forget the next 400 or so poster orders come with a FREE new mini-print)

You MAY have noticed but we here at Nakatomi like giving you guys things... FREE things. The nice bit about owning a print shop is whatever crazy thing we want to make…it’s done faster than it probably should be…not giving us adequate time to think things through. Sigh. We try to put an exclusive mini-print or handbill in w/ each order, just recently we had the test print 'Sid and Nancy Reagan' and we JUST ran out of the not-advertised or even written about Blade Runner portrait ‘quick study’ set. So, here’s a Handbill edition of ‘All My Dreams Come True’ FREE with every order!

Available in 3 wicked colour ways, we’ll put one in every tube going out the door while supplies last.

Each one is signed and numbered by the artist 12 × 12 inches 3 editions

    Orange /94, Blue /80 + Green /214 = 388 total edition size

Don’t say we never gave ya nothin!

    BIG Art Asylum Boston Announcement

Teamed together through the art of graffiti, Mike Baca aka 2ESAE & Fernando Romero aka SKI joined forces with the intentions to learn and grow as artists.

Prior to the thought of ever making a living from creating art, "We were forcing people to view our work around the city, illegally..." They spent years painting the streets and dealing with the repercussions of the law until they decided to do something positive with their talents by forming a collective. They have since put together nearly 50 shows /events both here in the U.S and Internationally. The collective is based on the philosophy of creation through destruction! Transforming the street graffiti perception into positive urban-industrial art.

All members of the collective are based out of New York. They primarily began doing art on the streets and subway systems of the city before ever touching a canvas. Collectively, each member adds not only a long history of graffiti based experience but within their works you will also find different styles, tools and creative elements implemented into their creative process through life experience and personal perspective . These guy's are artists in the truest sense of the word as they combine the use of photography (in which they are the photographer), paint(s), silk-screen, graphic design, illustrations, rust oxidation & collage to their works making the end result an array of visual aesthetic and beauty. For more information and to view additional works by these cats.
