Emek 'Thievery Corporation' Edition of 100 Size: 18 x 24 Inches $100 Each

Here is one of the best pieces I have seen in quite a while, this is Emek's latest piece for one of the best bands in the world... Thievery Corporation gig in Philadelphia one or so ago. The cool part about this piece is the wicked subway map vibe I get from it! Memories of riding the tube in London last year :) There happens to be a contest associated with this release, here are the details:

For this sale you don't need the fastest computer, or to sit by your desk all day, but you will need to put some thought into it...
Email us at emek@emek.net with your answer (letter only) sometime between now and midnight on Saturday March 21st.
Give us a few days to respond to the winners on how to purchase, then we will send out another broadcast when the sale is complete.

One of the great things about art is that the viewer can decide what it means to them. However, the goal of an artist is often to express his/her feelings and thoughts about something... So the challenge here is to decide what do you think i intended the art in this poster to mean.

    DIRECTIONS:

Choose the answer that best describes the meaning of the art in this poster as you think Emek intended.
In your email, ONLY put the letter (A, B, C,...) of your answer into the SUBJECT of the email
send your email to emek@emek.net BEFORE midnight on Saturday March 21,2009.

    QUESTION:
What is the meaning of the art for this poster?

    A) Its based on the notion that the individual is a microcosm of society at large, our heart must lead us on the right path, just as we hope society reflects mankind's higher purpose.
    B) Technology is taking over the heart.
    C) deus ex machina:  "heart from the machine" ... has come to mean a device that solves the conflict of a narrative.
    D) Its an analogy for the human condition, wherein the nature of our existence becomes more predominated by our reliance upon technologically regulated constructs that inhibit our cognition and diverts us on a path away from our true subconscious understanding of the world around us.
    E) Its based on the Thievery Corporation song about people turning into computers.
    F)  Electronic music that has a soul and addresses the conflics that are a part of life.
    G) It represents the duality of all music - the balance of opposites.
    H) All of the above.
    I) i dunno, i just want to flip it.
    J) This contest is just an experiment to test peoples attention spans and see if you can read till the end.
    Thanks for playing,
    Emek

    Obey+Glen Friedman 'Bad Brains' Edition of 425 Size: 24 x 18 Inches $125 Each

Here is next week's release from Obey!

    Bad Brains Collaboration Print

Bad Brains are one of my favorite punk/hardcore groups of all time. If you don’t have their self titled debut, “Rock For Light”, “I Against I”, or “Quickness”, they are all essential. I first heard Bad Brains at the beginning of 1984 when my friend lent me the brilliantly curated and titled Alternative Tentacles compilation “Let Then Eat Jellybeans”(A Ronald Reagan dessert favorite update to the Marie Antoinette slogan “Let them eat cake”). The Bad Brains song “Pay to Cum” from their first album was on the comp along with songs by Black Flag, The Dead Kennedys, The Circle Jerks, Flipper, etc.. I then went out to find full length records by all those bands. I soon discovered Minor Threat as well, and learned that Bad Brains had influenced their vocalist Ian MacKaye and Black flag vocalist Henry Rollins who were from Washington DC where Bad Brains had started as well. The Bad Brains were also a huge influence for the Beastie Boys. This collaboration ties into almost all of the bands I mentioned because they were almost all iconically shot at various times by photographer Glen E. Friedman. Glen shot a lot of great photos of Bad Brains and a few different shots were spliced together as the reference for this poster illustration. If you don’t know Glen’s work, and you should… go to burningflags.com.

This Bad Brains Collaboration Print is signed by Glen, Shep, and all the original members of Bad Brains.

Screen print is 24 x 18 inches, 3 colour process. Edition of 425, Only $120 Each

Here is the latest work from Miss Bugs, she has a hot theme of super heroes going and it looks so awesome. She really has a knack for really bringing out the boldness of her colors without jeopardizing the subject. This is a very small edition of only 30 and the pieces are 50 x 70 cm each. These beauties have 5 layer aerosol on top of 2 layer silk screen on to 2mm thin aluminum. Amazing work!! I look forward to adding her artwork to my collection. These will be made available in conjunction with her show at The Brooklynite Gallery opening on April 4th, 2009 .

Jermaine Rogers' Upcoming 2 Print Releases

Jermaine Rogers 'To Be Young Black And Gifted' Edition of 75 Size 20 x 20 Inches Jermaine Rogers 'To Be Young Black And Gifted' Edition of 75 Size 20 x 20 Inches

Not really digging the imagery but i am digging the message behind these. Here are the details about the upper image "Concerning the 'Prison' imagery, Jermaine says, 'Excuse my indulgence in a few statistics for a moment. Note the following numbers from the US Dept. Of Justice, complied in an article that I read recently: Among men, blacks (28.5%) are about six times more likely than whites (4.4%) to be admitted to prison during their life. There are more black men are in prison in America than are in college. Look at those statistics again. Ask yourself, 'Why?'' Jermaine's latest 2 pieces will be available from JermaineRogers.com. He will be releasing them sometime between 3pm - 6pm EST on Thursday March 19th, 2009. They will both have an edition size of 75. Jermaine's thoughts about the lower image are as follows, "The title and imagery 'Execution' are rather striking, in lieu of certain current events in the world. Jermaine mentions, 'It's interesting how our society provides several ways of teaching a child to get very comfortable with the feel of a pistol in his hand. Every little detail of this image has it's own little meaning: I hope some of you will like it?"
